Your behavior is making your father ill (heart disease, which was there before I was born).
Your father is more important than your best friend.
Sundays are for family only.
Don’t share what happens in our house with teachers or friends.
Rules don’t apply to your father the way they do to others.
If I pay for the expenses of raising you, you are beholden to me.
If the parent pays, the parent chooses (college, car, etc.).
No free lunch.

As the symptom-bearer of my family, I was always showing intense emotions. There was an unspoken rule of: “Don’t upset Dad, Don’t upset Mom, Don’t upset brother, but Joanne is always upset, so it’s okay to upset her.”

My message may be too old! But I can certainly relate to several of the silent family rules. Here are a few rules I recall from my family-of-origin: ‘if I don’t remember something, it must not have happened’, ‘you have too much going for you; you shouldn’t feel depressed’, ‘you shouldn’t feel that way; I had it worse than you’
