Hello Dr. Webb. I'm currently working with one of your trained therapists. The challenge I'm working to overcome is having BOTH CEN and ASD (high functioning). It is relatively complex to work through what behaviors and thoughts are due to one or the other condition (or both). I've not found any literature on the situation of growing up with both CEN and ASD. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much for all your helpful resources.

Dear Fanta, the next step for you is to learn how to speak up in a way that others can hear you. It means taking into account your timing, word choice and tone, and being mindful of how you would want to hear the message if the situation was reversed. It's a group of skills that you don't get when you grow up with CEN but you can learn them now!

and BRB is short for Big Red Book.
I read Yours in one sitting, And now I have your Next book on my Kindle!
Thank You for describing my life Exactly! Chuck
Oh, and I let my therapist borrow it too.

Spiritual Bypass
"A spiritual bypass means that the person is attempting to avoid the pain that can come with working through the trauma and neglect from childhood. In some cases, the person attempts to jump ahead in the recovery process without going through the entire process. This path invariably fails or leads to dissatisfying results." BRB p. 287

Thank you for writing Running On Empty. I stumbled on the concept of Emotional Neglect after first reading about narcissistic patterns - and realizing just how many narcissistic people I had let into my life. It made perfect sense that a person who had emptied humself would end up in the company of those who are full of themselves. I don't regret "waking up" (at the age of 55) but it was to the nightmare of narcissistic abuse. You will never know how much courage your writings have given me to perservere and find some new less selfish friends.

I also have Aphantasia (lack of a mind's eye) and wonder if that is somehow connected to childhood emotional neglect and "numbing out"?

Hi, Dr. Jonice,

I am 70 yrs old and I have watched your first 2 videos. Video 2 was right on for me. My biggest problem is believing that I am worth it. I hated myself for many decades. I have reached a point that I no longer hate me. But I am still sabotaging a lot. I have been resisting trusting self, believing in self, and doing things I know are good for me. I have a very big fear of others, especially family.

I have downloaded the Recovery Blueprint. It looks like a good plan. I intend to listen to Video 3 soon.

Thank you for your encouragement & all that you do.
